An evening with Gary Verity

An evening with Gary Verity

He is the chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, and is best known in the highest circles on both sides of the channel as the man who brought the Tour de France to Yorkshire – in Britain, he was knighted for his services to tourism, and in France he was made a Chevalier of the National Order of Merit.

But there’s more to him than just cycling. In May 2018, he became a Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire.

Born, bred and educated in Leeds, he fell in love with what he calls “the wider Yorkshire” – the glorious Dales and the magnificent coastline where he and his family spent their holidays. His love of animals was inspired by the James Herriot books, and 25 years ago he bought a sheep farm in Coverdale.

Although he’s received international recognition for the work he does, and he travels the world as a representative of this beautiful county, his heart remains in the Dales – a true Yorkshireman.

All proceeds raised tonight will be donated to Marie Curie.

Mark Watson: The Infinite Show

Mark Watson: The Infinite Show

Big name comedy at the Forum with author and comedian Mark Watson. Cluster-bombed with yoghurt on 'Taskmaster', half-killed on 'Bear Grylls' Celebrity Island', Watson returns to what he's best at: being indoors.

Inspired by the mostly alarming state of the world his children are growing up in and a genuine, urgent desire to do something about it, this show is about empathy. 99 percent of the world's population is made up of other people: why can't we understand them? As scrawny and impassioned as ever, one of the UK's most beloved and thinnest acts offers some suggestions, with his usual notoriously high joke-and-rant-per-minute rate.

The Royal Ballet - Don Quixote

The Royal Ballet - Don Quixote

Love and friendship triumph in Carlos Acosta's vibrant production of this dazzling ballet.

Cervantes’s story of the bumbling knight Don Quixote has inspired countless artistic interpretations. Marius Petipa choreographed this sparkling ballet about the encounters of the man from La Mancha and his faithful squire Sancho Panza. At its heart are virtuoso roles for the lovers Basilio and Kitri.

Carlos Acosta chose this joyful classic for his first production for The Royal Ballet. His vibrant staging brings together the

whole Company in such roles as exuberant villagers, passionate gypsies and even fantasy flowers. The story follows Don Quixote’s picaresque journey to do deeds in honour of his imaginary noble lady, Dulcinea. Sunny, charming, funny and touching – Don Quixote is a ballet as full of uplifting emotion as it is of astonishing ballet technique.
