The Railway Town’s Newspaper – “Treasuring our Railway Heritage”
An evening with Peter Barron
Peter Barron is one of the UK’s most experienced newspaper editors and columnists. You’ll laugh out loud at the disasters and you’ll be moved to tears by the triumphs but there’s never a dull moment as Peter looks back on a career in the news which earned him an MBE.
Darlington is known as the birthplace of the Railways; as a result of this major event in the town's history Peter firmly believes this was one of the major factors the Northern Echo was also born in the town in 1870. Peter has always had a passion for railway history and during his editorship he ran a campaign “Treasuring our Railway Heritage” in which he urged the town to do more to capitalise on its railway history. Without the railways there perhaps wouldn't have been a paper, without the paper then Peter's career may have taken a different track.
